Wear Uniform and Bedroom/barracks beds. The settings for Bedroom are use Bedroom at will, use barracks at will, and use barracks at need.
Once tavern is created you can add further rooms to it, such as a dormitory, bedrooms, dining room or more meeting halls. These need to be made separately then added to the tavern. You can add doctors to a hospital the same as you can add performers and tavern keepers to the tavern. Dormitory or bedrooms don't need to overlap. Dwarfs having private bedrooms makes them more happy but you can construct one big dormitory for them all to live in to meet their sleeping needs too. Make sure the bedrooms and dormitory is relatively close to the rooms where they work and eat so they can get there quicker, and consider ordering them to smooth the floors for faster movement.

You need to split these three things into different rooms. The chest, cabinet, armor rack, weapon rack, etc need to be distributed across all the rooms.This will give you bedrooms for up to 40 dwarves, and give you lots of pieces of rock to work with. Once you get more than 40 dwarves, instead of making more bedrooms on this z-level, go down one level and duplicate the same layout down there.
